Daegu Art Museum is holding a one-person exhibition of the 24th LEEINSUNG Art Prize recipient KWON O Bong. KWON O Bong (b. 1954) is building his painting realm while intuitively expressing free forms of lines over extensive time while based in Daegu. His art realm, which the artist spontaneously and instantly expresses, is also called “scribble paintings.”

This exhibition selects painterly attributes revealed in the artist’s art realm of 40-odd years to highlight his artistic prowess. Notably, it will unveil his most recent oil paintings along the artist’s intense prime works, in which traces of matière as the artist’s dynamic physical acts are plainly revealed. We introduce 2019’s paper work series as well in this exhibition, and works of various strong lines expressed with coal tar and oil on paper will be a major series for understanding KWON’s paintings known to date. His representative inlay-technique series, in which the artist scrapes out using various tools such as a knife, nail, hook, and spatula and applies color, is also exhibited, enriching the things to see.

KWON O Bong performs the role of a part of contemporary Korean art’s backbone, and this exhibition, highlighting KWON’s free and intuitive art world from different angles, will be an important occasion to widely introduce the artist’s paintings and understand his career.
