JUNGJEUMSIK ART PRIZE

JUNG JEUMSIK ART PRIZE is an award established to commemorate the noble and elevated artistic spirit of the late JUNG Jeumsik (1917-2009), who made remarkable achievements in the milestone of formation and development in not only the Daegu art world but also abstract art. It was jointly created by Daegu Art Museum and Dosol Foundation founded by the great artist's family. The late JUNG Jeumsik led the atypical period of the 1960s as a forerunner of the Korean abstract painting. He served as a teacher at Keisung Middle and High School in Daegu from 1954 to 1962, and as a professor at Keimyung University from 1964 to 2004.

JUNG JEUMSIK ART PRIZE is bestowed to curators, critics, and researchers who contribute to achieving outstanding results in the relevant field based on their professional competence in every realm.
The Prize aims to discover talented professionals leading in future-oriented values for the art world and is oriented to significant publications, research and exhibitions .etc conducted for the recent three years. A Management Committee is formed in order to ensure fair and transparent operation through which the Recommendation Committee and the Judging Committee composed of experts in contemporary art are designated. Thus, one final recipient is selected every year, and the annual award ceremony is held in June. The honored recipient is given creation (research) support fund and a plaque. In addition to his artistic contributions, JUNG Jeumsik paved the way to enhance blooming of the Daegu art world, by carrying out his multifarious activities in quality of curator, critic, and educator. This Prize intends to promote a brighter future and progress of the Korean art world by assisting researchers in varied fields other than art creation, which had not been benefited from sufficient supports in the past.
